Getting ready for summer.

After a few weeks of nice weather and a long Easter for some people have been busy and there has been a big increase in fencing materials and general items going out of the yard. I assume like Dad (Chris) people are gearing up and getting things done ready for the sunny summer months that are to come, Dad has been fixing a shed roof, Mum (Julie) has got her tomato plants in the greenhouse and I am planning a bread/pizza oven for the garden!!

Here is an email from one customer who has obviously just finished his works project.

Another project finished.

Please find attached my project report from our Willow House Project in Hampshire, which you supplied the wooden uprights for.

One happy customer!

Our last post was mainly about cladding and true to our word here is a photo from a customer showing some of the wood cut here at Ridley Sawmill.  Hopefully more photo's to follow.

Email received 10th Feb 2014:

Chris ,
I picked up my timber on Fri and mentioned to your wife I would send a picture of the building Jonathan and I have been working on over the past few years made from Oak cut at Ridley Sawmill.

Thanks for your support  and I hope you agree nice to see a wide waney edged board use to good effect.
This was a picture taken a year ago . I’ve since put in copper caps to the end beams and drip sills where necessary.

Regards Chris

HAPPY NEW YEAR.
I know it's a bit late but happy new year and best wishes for 2014.

January so far has been a productive month.  Customers are repairing fences after the damage from last months stormy weather and also with the new year customers have started with gusto on those building projects regardless of the rain we keep getting.

There have been a lot of orders and enquiries over the last few months for cladding which seems to be the new 'thing' for the exterior of buildings.  With t.v shows like 'Grand Designs' and ' Restoration Home' it's no wonder people are trying different things out for them selves especially when you see some of the amazing results that can be accomplished and there are plenty of examples around this area to be seen.
If I can get permission I will take some photo's of recent and current customers building projects which have been clad in wood and will post on here as examples.

Cladding is fast becoming very popular, waney edged boards and feather edged boards (weather board/close board) are the most common which are available in Oak, Douglas Fir, Larch, Western Red Cedar and the normal softwoods such as spruce.

Please phone the office 01747 870351 for any enquiries.

On another note look at these little beauties.

Although they will have to wait a bit longer before they can be planted out as we haven't quite finished prepping the ground for them with it being so wet and all.  Then only about 6 years until these little ones can be adorned with baubles and tinsel.

December News:

With Christmas falling mid week and the 1st December falling on a weekend it feels as though we have lost a week on the run up to the big day and Christmas tree sales reflect this as the first one went out on the 3rd.

The first one to go.

As always our minds are already thinking about next year.  Several people have asked for potted tree's.  At the moment we don't sell them potted but are thinking about the possibility next year.
What do you think? - please let us know your feed back as it is always helpful.

LOGS

Due to a great opportunity Ben will be away next month January 2014 so log deliveries will be unavailable BUT will be available for collection from the sawmill and bags of logs will be available as normal.

How is everyone coping with this weather?

What with the stormy, wet windy weather I am surprised we don't have more photo's like this to show you....

This photo was taken by Susan Ridley at one of the places she works near Tisbury.
Here at Ridley Sawmill we only had a branch off the Damson tree down and a small Thorn tree down in the meadow.

Please feel free to email any of you own photo's across that we can put up on the blog.

Surprisingly logs sales have been better than we thought especially as the temperature outside isn't that cold for this time of year.  I personally am looking forward to some cold frosty mornings/days.

It's unbelievable that we are now into November and we've already got two Christmas tree's pre-ordered for Christmas.
This year we will have some of our own smaller 4 foot trees available for sale for those of you who don't have space for a larger tree.  Claire has also been looking into the possibility of selling potted tree's in the future.  Let us know your idea's on this.
