Tree-Killing Beetle

Last month the Forestry Commission confirmed they have spotted the larvae of the Asian longhorn beetle.

Environmental teams have been at work in Kent trying to stop the outbreak which is a threat to many tree species

Plants affected by the pests have to be removed and destroyed.

The beetles are not poisonous and do not harm humans although they can bite!

Adult Asian longhorn beetles are usually found in China and Korea: They are a shiny black in colour with white flecks and are normally between 2-4cm in length, while their antennae can sometimes be twice the length!
